The Andalusian José Luis Munuera Montero will be in charge of refereeing this Thursday (9:30 p.m.) the match between Athletic Club and FC Barcelona, corresponding to the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, after the referee Mario Melero López, designated at first to do so, has tested positive for coronavirus.
“The RFEF Technical Committee of Referees changes the appointment of referee Mario Melero López for the Athletic Club-FC Barcelona match in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey after a positive result for COVID-19. The Andalusian referee is asymptomatic and is is in good condition,” confirmed the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Tuesday.
For his part, Javier Alberola Rojas, from the Castilla-La Mancha Committee, and Jorge Figueroa Vázquez, from Andalusia, will direct the other round of 16 matches Real Sociedad-Atlético de Madrid and Elche-Real Madrid, which will be played on Wednesday 19 (9:00 p.m. hours) and Thursday 20 (7:00 p.m.), respectively.
Athletic Club, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid played this past week in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, in which the Whites prevailed after defeating the Bilbao player (0-2) this Sunday in Riyadh.
