Munich embraces the colors of the rainbow

The people of Munich displayed the colors of the rainbow in various places in the city today and displayed flags at the Allianz Arena stadium as a show of solidarity with the LGBT community in Hungary.

The goalkeeper and captain of the German team, Manuel Neuer, once again wore the rainbow-colored armband that he had worn in the first two games.

Before the start of the meeting, an activist dribbled the security measures and jumped onto the field displaying an LGTBI flag while the Hungarian national anthem sounded. He was quickly approached by the security services, who immobilized him, and was removed from the field to cheers and applause from the stands.

Hours before the duel at the Allianz Arena, the Munich City Council had already shown its intentions after UEFA's refusal to illuminate the stadium with the colors of the rainbow. The football organization rejected the proposal, claiming that it was bound to political neutrality, alluding to the new Hungarian legislation, which prohibits in that country speaking to minors about homosexuality in schools and the media. The truth is that if UEFA wanted to run a thick veil, it backfired, as its decision was news all over the world.

For now, the response of the Munich City Council was to decorate its headquarters on Marienplatz in the Bavarian capital with rainbow flags. Later, several buildings were illuminated in rainbow colors, including the tower of the Olympic Village, as well as a windmill that can be seen from the Allianz Arena, although the rain did not help.
