Munar and Martínez caress the final draw of Cincinnati

Weeks ago it seemed that those games of the MAPFRE League tennis would not get anywhere, but now you can see the results of that shoot. And is that Jaume Munar, after beating copper in those clay court duels, he has put experience to use to beat Federico Delbonis in the penultimate round of the qualifying phase of the Cincinnati Masters 1,000.

The Spaniard did his homework against the Argentine, a rival who is currently several steps above Jaume in the ATP ranking (105th for 78th place), imposing his highest number of hours in competition in recent months. Delbonis paid it and the scoreboard spoke for itself in the first set: 6-1 for Munar in just 26 minutes of play.

The film was already another in the second set, with a more attentive Delbonis and with the lesson learned. But still his reaction came late. There were no breaks and everything was decided in the tie break, hot moments in which Munar showed greater solidity. This Friday the pass to the final table of the tournament will be played, which starts in New York next Saturday, August 22, with a local player: Jeffrey John Wolf. The young American, 21 years old and 144th in the ATP, gave one of the great surprises of the previous one by eliminating Gerasimov (69º) on the fast track: 6-3 and 6-1. The company will not be easy for the Balearic Islands against a rival on a streak and who arrived as wildcard (invited). The pressure will be on Jaume's roof …

Martinez also surprises Johnson

As we discussed with Munar, the filming of Liga MAPFRE can also be applied in the triumph of Pedro Martinez on a rival of higher ranking and, who also played at home. He is Spanish and sealed his ticket to the last round of the qualifying round by beating the American Steve Johnson (63rd ATP) in three sets: 6-3, 6-7 and 6-2. Of course, except for surprise, his rival in the last game promises to be Marton Fucsovics, A very tough obstacle since the Hungarian is a very experienced player and in 2019 he reached the 31st position in the ranking. The full Spanish could not be completed on the day of this Thursday since Alejandro Davidovich was defeated in his duel against Berankis (6-3 and 6-4).
