Muguruza: “This could have been avoided, as we have all done, by getting vaccinated”

Garbiñe Muguruza, who will debut next Tuesday at the Australian Open against the French Burel, also gave his opinion on the Djokovic case, who has revolutionized the entire tournament waiting to know if he will be deported or if he will finally play the first Grand Slam of the season.

“Every time I’m in a press conference I get this question. I answered in Sydney. I think it’s taking a long time. I think we all want to move on, whatever it is, move on and focus on the cool aspect of starting a Slam. I, yes, I think all this could have been avoided, as we all have done, by getting vaccinated, doing all the things we had to do to come here to Australia. Everyone very clearly knew the rules. You just have to follow them and voila. I don’t think it will be that difficult,” Muguruza said.

The Caracas-born player acknowledged that this conflict is not good for her sport: “Yes. I don’t think this will help the world of tennis or the players because in the end it’s a bit of conflict all the time. It’s hard enough to make tournaments work and make the WTA and ATP tours continue to go country by country to create all this news.”. However, Garbiñe ruled out that she feels frustrated by what is happening: “I am just, like everyone else, seeing what is happening. In the end it’s nothing related to me. I am focusing on my tournament. This is far from my thoughts. But yeah, I think we all want to put this behind us and focus on the good part.”
