Muguruza: “The best feeling is to play a final”

Garbiñe Muguruza is currently ranked 16 in the ATP ranking. The Spanish, of Venezuelan origin, became number one in the world and has two Grand Slam titles in her record: Wimbledon and Roland Garros, among other tournaments. After two difficult years, this season he reached the final of the Australian Open for the first time. The American Sofia Kenin deprived him of the title in a disputed match. Now, he chatted with 11 juniors from 11 different countries, who asked Garbiñe about both tennis and his life in general.

“What motivates me is to see me win a Grand Slam or any trophy again. I like a player a lot and I compete for that. TI have to train very hard to try to be among the best, there are moments when you are down, others are up …, but nobody stays, unless you are Nadal or Serena. Playing a final is the best feeling there is. Then you win or lose, but playing for a trophy is a situation you always want to be in, “he said via video conference.

He admits that in tournaments “he tries to distract himself” once he leaves the tennis club of each town. “I walk around, watch a movie, talk to my team … you also don't have to be thinking all the time about the game or the tournament while you rest. It is your free time. Once you enter the club, full concentration, “he added.” Your first tournament is always the most important. I think it marked a before and after. GAnas and you say 'wow', I can qualify for a higher WTA or even a Grand Slam. “

After the defeat at the last Australian Open, Garbiñe was affected during the awards ceremony. “Before, when I lost a game, I would spend two days in my room looking at the wall. Little by little, that pain passed, it also depends on how you lose. The good thing about tennis is that a game does not define your career and in two or three weeks you have another tournament. “
