Garbiñe Muguruza is already in Charleston (South Carolina, United States) where the clay court season will begin next week. This WTA 500 is the first of four tournaments that Garbiñe will play on clay this year. Charleston is played on the American 'green' land so Muguruza will return home later to prepare the big appointments on European soil: the Madrid Open, Rome and Roland Garros.
In Charleston, Muguruza will depart as fourth seeded, behind the Australian Ash Barty (recent champion in Miami), the American Sofia Kenin and the Dutch Kiki Bertens, and is scheduled to debut on Tuesday or Wednesday.
“This is the second time I have come to Charleston … the first was in 2013, so it's been quite a while. I am very excited to play here. It's a different way to start the gravel season, and I'm looking forward to doing it well, “said Muruguza.
