MotoGP will use sustainable fuel from 2024

MADRID, 24 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Motorcycle World Championships in its three categories – MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 – will begin to use sustainable fuels from 2024 and, in 2027, one hundred percent of the fuel will be of non-fossil origin to start a new era with ” fuel of the future. “

Starting in 2024 and progressing until 2027, the MotoGP World Championship in its three categories will switch to using sustainable fuels, ushering in a new global era of zero-carbon fuels.

In collaboration with the MotoGP manufacturers, new targets have been set to increase sustainability. “By 2024, the fuel of all MotoGP categories will have a minimum of 40% of non-fossil origin. By 2027, the fuel of all MotoGP categories will be of 100% non-fossil origin,” said Dorna, organizer of the World.

MotoGP will be the platform on which these fuels will continue to be developed and tested, with each premier-class manufacturer working with their supplier to develop their own fuel. The development of multiple fuels will ensure that technology and knowledge reach consumer motorcycles and street pumps in the future.

“This will create an unrivaled selection of viable and sustainable fuels developed by some of the world’s largest energy players and tested by the highest-level prototype two-wheelers on the planet. By not having a single owner, the initiative ensures a unprecedented global impact, “defended Dorna.

Specifically, the Moto2 and Moto3 categories will continue to be supplied by a single fuel supplier and will also introduce a partially sustainable fuel in 2024. Both categories will switch to 100% sustainable fuel in 2027, along with the MotoGP category.

“FIM, IRTA, MSMA, Dorna and all parties involved are committed to creating a more sustainable sport and future, from engineering greater sustainability on the track to assessing and reducing the footprint of the carbon in every event and every aspect of sport with innovative solutions, “the statement said.

Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta was “very proud” to announce this “incredible new adventure”. “We would like to thank the FIM, MSMA, IRTA, our manufacturers and fuel suppliers for their strong support in this innovative step towards a more sustainable world. Competing together, MotoGP will be a driving force for global change and increased sustainability, “he said.
