Around 700 long-distance runners of all ages competed this weekend in the 44th edition of the Marxa Beret, the most popular cross-country skiing event in Spain, in which the Basque Olympian Imanol Rojo and the Navarrese Irati Cuadrado won. defeated in the FIS long distance, valid for the Iberdrola Spanish Classic Championships.
The Val d'Aran and Valls d'Àneu resorts hosted the event, which had a highly competitive aspect in which skiers with FIS licenses participated and which counted as the Iberdrola Spanish Long-Distance Cross-Country Ski Championships in classic style.
Popular participation mainly gathers in the distances of 5 kilometers, the Mini Beret, and the 10, while the long distances of 21 and 42 kilometers are those that bring together high-level competitors.
With the aim of guaranteeing safety and the proper development of the competition, the distances of the upper distances have been shortened. In the 21 km, since it is not possible to go down to Montgarri, the route through the Pla de Beret and Orri has been adapted with a length of 18.5 km. As for the queen test, the 42 km, a 32 km route has been designed with two laps of the marked route, valid for the FIS Long Distance circuit.
On Saturday, the Salomon Spanish Sprint Championships and the open VI Premio Belén Jordana alpine skiing charity event were held at the Fernández Ochoa Stadium in Beret, which brought together 200 participants in memory of the deceased young woman.
