More than 6,500 runners participate in the XV Generali Race for Inclusion in Madrid

MADRID, 26 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

More than 6,500 runners participated this Sunday in Madrid in the XV Generali Race for Inclusion ‘A goal for all’, a solidarity event in which a new record for participants with disabilities was broken with more than 629 people.

This event aims to give greater visibility to people with disabilities, promote a more inclusive society and facilitate the high-performance sports development of young people with disabilities. Generali has organized the race with the support of the Madrid City Council and the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE).

The International-Mediterranean & Latin America Regional Officer of Generali, Santiago Villa, presented the amount raised for the Generali Paralympic Athletics Promise Team to the president of the CPE, Miguel Carballeda.

“It is exciting to promote this initiative in which people, with and without disabilities, run for the same goal: moving towards a more inclusive society. For Generali it is a priority to promote sport as a source of health and well-being, a practice that must be accessible for everyone,” Villa said.

Olympic and Paralympic athletes, such as Carmen Giménez, Martín Fiz and Abel Antón, have participated in the test, along with thousands of fans, with and without disabilities.

The main 10K test ran through some of the most emblematic places in the city such as Puerta de Alcalá, Cibeles, Plaza de Colón and the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The winner of the absolute men’s category was Marcos Oñate Ramos, with a time of 32 minutes and 45 seconds, while in the women’s category Maria Gorette Subano reigned, with 35 minutes and 30 seconds.

In the chair category, the champions were Jordi Madera Jiménez (26:58) and Carmen Giménez Abad (39:46), both revalidating the title. In handbike, Emilio Agüera repeated last year’s victory (21:02) and Blanca Colsa won the women’s category (48:49), and in street bikes Alberto Suárez Laso (33:26) and Elena Congost Mohedano (41) won. :19).

The meeting culminated with the Race of Improvement, in which this year has broken a participation record with more than 300 people with severe disabilities along with their guides and family members who have completed a 400-meter route surrounded by the applause and affection of the attendees, and the participation of the little ones in children’s races.

The race is held every year to benefit the Generali Paralympic Athletics Promises Team, an initiative promoted together with the Spanish Paralympic Committee to facilitate and promote access to elite sports practice for boys and girls with disabilities throughout the Spanish territory, which this year you will receive 14,959 euros thanks to this test. Since its first edition, the Race for Inclusion has contributed close to 300,000 euros to the team.

In total, more than 60 athletes have trained with the Promesas Team and 18 have accessed the ADOP high-performance sports development program. Seven of them have participated in the Paralympic Games, such as Iván Cano, silver medalist in the long jump at the last Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, or Alba García Falagán, in the long jump.
