MADRID, 22 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Nearly 5,000 runners are taking part this Sunday (9:00 a.m.) in Madrid in the KLM North vs. South race, a 10-kilometre race that will link Mateo Inurria street with Paseo Infanta Isabel and in which the athletes will be spread out in one of the two teams to decide which cardinal point is the fastest.
In this fourteenth edition, the South arrives with the advantage that victory in the first 8 editions gives it, while the North has claimed 5 consecutive victories since then.
The ‘captains’ will be Yago Rojo from Madrid, national champion in the half marathon and silver in the national 10K, who will defend the white shirt of the South; and Lidia Campo, from Burgos, who will wear the blue of the North and who is presenting herself in full preparation for the summer season after finishing fourth and fifth in the Spanish Half Marathon and 10K Championships, respectively.
The route is very favourable, with a descending profile and crosses Serrano, Puerta de Alcalá, Cibeles, Alfonso XII street -next to the Retiro-, to complete the last meters on Paseo Infanta Isabel, next to Atocha.
The individual winners in the overall category will receive from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines a plane ticket for two people to any of the long-haul destinations operated by the KLM company.
SUSTAINABLE CAREER
The airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will promote actions aimed at reducing the impact of the carbon footprint in the capital. To do this, electric vehicles will be used in the race, the use of recycled materials will be prioritized, the use of plastics will be limited and electric generators will be used.
In addition, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has invited the participants to collaborate with Reforesta, a non-profit association that works to care for forests and reforest natural environments, some of them with a special impact on the Community of Madrid.
The collection of numbers will take place until Saturday (from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.) in the Caleido Madrid Events Room, a new leisure, restaurant and fashion area, in the north of Madrid, and integrated into the Cuatro Torres Business Area.
