The output of the selection Senegal to Cameroon for the dispute of the Africa Cup, initially scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, was postponed to this Wednesday due to three cases of Covid detected in the workforce. “There are at least three cases: Saliou Ciss, (Mamadou) Loum Ndiaye and Habib Diallo, in addition to other suspected cases,” an official from the Senegalese Sports Ministry told AFP.
These cases come days after those announced in the host Cameroon team. The Lions that tested positive – they play respectively for Nancy (L2), Alavés (LaLiga) and Strasbourg (L1) – “have been quarantined,” the statement said.
The Senegalese head of state, Macky Sall, presented the national flag to the players on Tuesday, who are among the favorites of the competition and will have to take off in the afternoon to Cameroon, where the CAN is played from January 9 to 6 February. Senegal, which never won the CAN, failed in the final in 2000 against Cameroon and in 2019 against Algeria.
The Lions, led by Liverpool forward Sadio Mané and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, will face Zimbabwe in Group B on January 10, Guinea on January 14 and Malawi on January 18.
