Mirotic rules out going to Partizan after receiving threats

The Serbian club questions the argument of the former Barça player and regrets that he did not keep his word

MADRID, 22 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Montenegrin Hispanic power forward Nikola Mirotic revealed this Saturday that he had received threats since his possible transfer to Partizan was leaked, which is why he has ruled out playing for the Serbian club despite advanced negotiations.

The ex of Barça issued a statement on his Instagram account regretting the rumors that the end of his stage in Barcelona unleashed. However, when the question of his decision to play in Partizan arose, Mirotic encountered an unpleasant situation that made him change his mind fearing for his safety.

“For weeks now different information about me and the continuation of my career has been coming out. Against my will and desire, and without my knowledge, and certainly far from the truth, randomly written texts are being published,” the player writes.

“As some information about the continuation of my career at BC Partizan reached the public, threats and insults began, which surprised and hurt me a lot, because I don’t want to be a person who divides people for any reason, especially not because of the colors of the club. I have decided not to be part of such an environment and I do not want to expose myself and my family to further inconvenience,” he adds.

Mirotic points out that the threats do not “come from the Red Star” and that “the financial aspect” has not been his priority either. “I would like to thank BC Partizan for the trust and desire to be part of their team, but I made the decision that the best thing for me and my family is to continue my career in one of the European teams outside of Serbia,” he ends.

After four years at Barça, Mirotic’s future was first linked to Armani Milano but in recent weeks Partizan was the club that sounded loud. The Serbian team confirmed his interest in another statement and, furthermore, revealed meetings and an agreement in principle with Mirotic, regretting his change of position and doubting that the reason was those threats that the player condemned.

“The club publicly calls on Nikola Mirotic, for his commitment to the truth, and he is a man who fights for the truth (as the player also said in his statement), so that he can say who the people who threatened him are. Partizan firmly believes that Nikola Mirotic’s reasons for not signing the contract have nothing to do with threats,” the Serbian club points out.

From the team led by the legendary Zeljko Obradovic, it is noted that they even spoke with the country’s president, Aleksandar Vucic, so that he would personally guarantee Mirotic his safety and welcome to Serbia. “Despite all the efforts and negotiations that lasted several weeks, Partizan will not sign one of the best European players at the moment, Mirotic,” the team statement said.

Partizan reproaches Mirotic for breaking his word and at the beginning of an agreement that both parties had for two weeks, leaving the Serbian team halfway with the project for next season, Obradovic’s team forced to find a new one.
