Miranda bets that the Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series “is here to stay”

The Councilor for Sports of the Madrid City Council, Sofía Miranda, is betting that the Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series, whose first edition is held from December 10 to 12 with more than 200 athletes in five categories, “is here to stay” and have a ” direct impact “on grassroots sport.

The Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series has started this Friday with the official presentation at the Gallur Municipal Sports Center in an act with the presence of Sofía Miranda, and the three ambassadors, the Olympic medalist Ray Zapata, the athlete Bjoergvin Guomundsson and the double champion of the CrossFit Games, Annie Thorisdottir.

Together with them, the councilor of the Latina district, Alberto Serrano, and the director of the event, Víctor Casanovas, participated in the press conference. The event is a commitment by the Madrid City Council to make the capital the epicenter of international CrossFit as well as to give visibility to a sport that is gaining more followers every day.

“This must be an event that is here to stay, and to achieve that it had to have the best participants, the best athletes and have a direct impact on grassroots sports,” he said.

Miranda has welcomed the three ambassadors of the tournament to Madrid. “Now we have to enjoy CrossFit in our city, which is once again the focus of sport. From the Madrid City Council we do not hesitate to bet on these events to help make this and all sports visible, as it is the best tool to have a healthier society, “he commented.

The Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series counts for its first edition with gymnast Ray Zapata, silver in the recent Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. It rewards the work of many years, “he said.

Athletes of great international level such as the Swiss Adrian Mundweiler or the Hungarian Kristóf Horváth will seek to rise as champions in the men’s category, while in the female elite, names such as the Spanish athlete Silvia García ‘Sepius’ or the Icelandic Solveig Sigurdardottir stand out.

The Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series will distribute 70,000 euros in prizes, making it one of the most important on the national and European calendar. Newly arrived from Iceland, two CrossFit symbols have landed in Madrid and have become ambassadors for the event.

Bjoerg Guomundsson and Annie Thorisdottir will represent the Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series during the three days of competition. Annie Thorisdottir has sent a message to the new generations who practice this sport.

“Do not leave it, you will regret it. I have realized all that this can mean, I have seen how much this sport can give, trust that the road will be worth it and do not leave it. It is incredible to see how they girls become stronger, more powerful, they learn a lot from sport for their daily lives, it helps them a lot, “she said.

Thorisdottir has been optimistic about the future of women’s CrossFit. “I am sure that this event is going to promote all these women, it is going to help all those girls to continue playing sports,” she said.

For his part, the athlete Björgvin Karl Guomundsson, one of the main CrossFit references at the European level, has valued the reception and interest of the Spanish crossfit community very positively. “It is great to have an event like this and to see that everyone is gradually adding to this great sport. It is the first time that I feel like a superstar in Madrid and it is my pride to be an ambassador,” he declared .

FAN ZONE AND RESTORATION

The public present during the competition will be able to enjoy a Fan Zone that will feature three ‘Food Trucks’ and more than 10 exhibitors, including unique experiences and challenges. In addition, a free training area will be set up where attendees can train or carry out their ‘Workouts’.

The ‘Parkour’ will also be present at the event with a children’s area for the little ones and with a spectacular exhibition that will feature some of the international references of this discipline.

The Madrid CrossFit Challenger Series is framed in the calendar of events of Madrid World Capital of Sport 2022 as one of the important sporting events that take place in the capital of Spain throughout this sporting milestone.
