MADRID, 26 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The women’s national basketball coach, Miguel Méndez, appreciated the importance of the duel against Hungary this Sunday, with the option of sealing the ticket to Eurobasket 2023 and the objective in addition to continuing to grow with a new group.
“Victory is very necessary to qualify for the Eurobasket, which is the ultimate goal. The good moment of Spanish basketball with so many teams in European competitions has led us to have some players below their physical level. We have taken care of a little to the players in this concentration and perhaps we arrived a little short of tactics”, indicated in declarations facilitated by the Spanish Federation of Basketball.
With the leadership and the direct ticket to the continental event at stake, the Galician coach highlighted the level of the Hungarians. “We played with a team with all the players that play in the Euroleague, with a good physique, with a very powerful inside game, with a good game director. It will be a very interesting game to watch,” he said.
“It’s going to be a very intense game, they have three high-level centers. We will have a different game plan than Iceland, with longer rotations,” he added, before highlighting the group they have and the help that winning games means.
“The group is charming. The chemistry there is, what they are building, with many synergies, everyone wants to make things easy for the one next to them. But all this must be confirmed with a good game and with victories. With good results, a team is built much faster,” he said.
In addition, the national coach explained the importance of having the last two qualifying matches with the ticket already secured. “What we are looking for is to have a different February window, so that we can touch that group of players who have not been able to be there, expand the number of people in the group. Continue building the team but making it longer,” he finished.
