Míchel: “We want to continue dreaming, but we have our feet on the ground”

MADRID, 14 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Girona FC coach, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, ‘Míchel’, made it clear that his team, current surprising leader of LaLiga EA Sports 2023-2024, wants to “continue dreaming” and that they have “their feet on the ground” despite the fact that they have already There are many who are pointing them out as candidates to fight for the title, although he recalled that teams like FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid are “made” for this very ambitious goal.

“The first third is spectacular and we want to continue dreaming. Maybe we have a little more impact and a little more noise on a daily basis, but obviously our daily work remains the same and it is welcome that we have more impact for something so beautiful like what we are achieving,” said Míchel after attending the Sports Values Gala this Tuesday, organized by the newspaper ‘Sport’ and held at the COE headquarters, and where he received the ‘Values’ award.

The Madrid coach “does not” feel more pressure because they are beginning to be seen as candidates for the title. “We have our feet on the ground. I told the players that expectations have to be generated by oneself and our dreams are obviously there, but we cannot compare ourselves with Real Madrid, Barça and Atlético, which are three teams that are made to fight for the league,” he commented.

“We believe that the objective of staying in the First Division and making history by continuing for three years is already very close and we are going to achieve it, and now we have new challenges and that new challenge could be finishing in the top six. It is very complicated, but let’s go to try to fight for it,” added the Catalan team’s coach.

Míchel also referred to this Tuesday’s meeting of the coaches with the Technical Referee Committee, although he considered it “more of a talk” and where they discussed “three important points.” “With the VAR we have tried to iron out the differences that it is there to help, but many times we find the same situation in different matches and that it is decided depending on who is in the VOR room and we have to try to find a solution. We think that it has come to help and we believe that we are in that constant improvement, and I believe that it will be achieved,” he indicated.

The second point they discussed was “a bit of game management, where it is true that the referees have a lot of pressure.” “So are we, and sometimes that communication, instead of fluid, is a little aggressive on both sides and we believe that there are points for improvement because the closer we have with the referees, the better,” he admitted.

“SOMETIMES WE PUT THE FOCUS TOO MUCH ON THE SAME UNION”

Finally, they also talked about “the issue of hands.” “It is something that has attracted a lot of attention in recent seasons and I think it is something that this season we have taken a ‘little step’ forward, although I still think it can be improved and we all think we can go further,” he said.

“I think they have been spectacular days for the referees to see that we are in favor of football. I think that all the coaches have been involved, they are the only judges, but in the end we have to know that we are all in the same boat and that we are all important but that we are not in a confrontation, players, coaches and referees,” Míchel added.

The coach saw consensus. “It has been many hours and the words have a lot of power. And when you see that closeness, it is the first step. Obviously, we all make mistakes and sometimes we put too much focus on a certain union. Let’s try together to perhaps understand all the sectors For our part, as the Coaching Committee, we want them to see that we are hand in hand with the referees,” he stated in this regard.

Additionally, prior to that meeting with the CTA, the coaches met to discuss the problems of those who have been fired and “haven’t been paid yet.” “That has made the Coaching Committee feel bad and we have sought to provide a response to the situation that some teammates are experiencing,” he stressed.

For Míchel, a club should not “sign a coach when another has not been signed” and he emphasized above all on solving it in “lower categories where there are people who practically live off their salary.” “And if they don’t receive it until two years after the trial comes out, they could have a bad time and we have to show solidarity with all of them,” he explained.

In this sense, he praised the role taken by Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid. “He has spoken very well, with the force of saying that we have to be united to fight against this and it is appreciated that the Real Madrid coach is so involved,” warned the Girona coach.
