Míchel: “It took us a bit long, PSG pushed hard”

“The action of the goal is anecdotal, mistakes are allowed”

MADRID, 19 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Girona FC coach Míchel acknowledged that Paris Saint-Germain deserved the victory (1-0) this Wednesday on a historic night for the Spanish team in their first match in the Champions League, where they showed that they want to continue growing and suffered a painful defeat with a goal in the last minute.

“Our first experience in the Champions League. We were very nervous at the first play of the match, you could see, there was almost a goal chance, but as the first half progressed we found personality, commitment, attitude, we closed the spaces well,” he said in statements to Movistar Plus, collected by Europa Press.

However, the Girona coach admitted that the second half was “a bit long” and that the changes made the difference. “In the second half, after the changes and also because of fatigue, PSG put more pressure on us and when they sink you so much, Luis Enrique generates a lot of pressure after losing the ball. We didn’t know how to give those passes to get out and we were constantly defending a lot,” he said.

“Now people are upset. We have to be proud. I told them that it took us a bit of time, we have to admit that PSG pushed hard, there were three saves that could have been goals. The victory is deserved, but we can be proud of the way we work. We want to continue like this and see if we have the opportunity to return to Paris, for Girona to continue growing,” he added.

On the other hand, Míchel did not torture himself thinking about the goal in the 90th minute that slipped through Paulo Gazzaniga’s arms and legs. “The action of the goal is anecdotal. Errors are allowed, commitment, attitude, defending the shirt, no. It cannot be missed. We are a humble team that has to work hard,” he said.

“I think that our first experience in the Champions League will give us a passing grade, if not a B. We have competed against a great team, on a very top stage, where the pressure can get to you, and I think that the team has been up to par. I look forward to the first Champions League match at home, to another good match and to being able to win,” he concluded.
