Metropolitan Festival to continue in combat

metropolitans endorsed this Tuesday a resounding defeat to Students Mérida with a 4-0 win, with three goals in the last minutes of the second leg of the first round of the South American Cup.

With a goal in the first half and three other annotations in just five minutes, the city-dwellers secured their pass to the group stage, a quota that they had already scratched in the first leg with the 0-2 victory against the eleventh team from Merida.

Despite the fact that the visitors opened the game with good momentum, a red card in the 22nd minute for Alejandro Araque marked the mood of Estudiantes de Mérida who, with one player less, could not come back and left clear spaces that the Metropolitans took advantage of.

In the 34th minute, after two clear scoring opportunities, the people from the capital opened the scoring with a goal from striker Robinson Flores.

With their head coach fired last weekend, Estudiantes de Mérida did what they could in defense and opened the second half on the attack with a Germán Contreras header from the center of the box.

The second and last clear scoring opportunity for the Merideños in the second half came in the 55th minute with a missed shot by Jesús Vargas, who kicked outside the area after taking a free kick.

But Metropolitanos’ onslaught was such in the second half that they scored another goal in the 88th minute with a shot from the left by Charlis Ortiz, assisted by Jefre Vargas.

The imbalance of the visitors was noted with an own goal, an error by Marcel Guaramato, in the 90th minute, which was followed by the fourth of the day, thanks to the quick action of Néstor Cova, who took advantage of the assistance of Robinson Flores with a center to the area.

Thus, the Estudiantes de Mérida said goodbye to the Copa Sudamericana with a single goal in the tournament that counted for their opponents.
