Messi: “We can't win the Champions League playing like before the break”

The start of the League is already on the horizon and Barcelona will face the eleven days that remain with two points of advantage over Real Madrid, but with the feeling that the team had not achieved good feelings after Quique's takeover. Setien. Messi has taken the floor in interviews with Sport and Mundo Deportivo in which he analyzes an immediate future marked by the coronavirus. And it does it with total clarity. “Well, maybe this break may end up benefiting us, but we are going to see if they can start the competitions and there we will leave doubts, because we will check the level that we have or can have when we start,” he assures without hesitation in Sport.

Messi was also asked about the future of the team. The market will be under pressure, but there is a name that links Barcelona above others and that is Lautaro, the Inter striker. Messi did not hold back in Mundo Deportivo either. “If I'm honest I don't know very well if there were or are negotiations right now for him, I have no idea. I think I already mentioned it, that Lautaro is an impressive striker, especially because I think he is a very complete point: he is strong, he dribbles well, he has a goal, he knows how to protect the ball … But hey, we will have to see what happens finally with him and with other names that sound, “he says. For the Barcelona captain, despite not being able to invest a lot of money, the good eye on the transfers can be decisive for the coming season. “On the subject of transfers there are some people in the club who are in charge and should be the ones who choose what they think is best for the team. It is clear that in this current situation everything is going to be rarer on the market as well and you have to be fine and be right in order to improve what we already have ”, he analyzes.

Messi also went out to explain some statements in which he seemed to criticize the squad. “What I think is that the coach misunderstood what I said or explained what he wanted to say wrong. What I said was that playing as we had been playing the last games before the break, it seemed clear that it was not enough for us to win the Champions League. I never doubted the squad we have and I have no doubt that you can win all that remains, but not by playing in the way we were playing. Now everyone has their opinion and they are all very respectable. Mine is based on the fact that I was lucky to play the Champions League every year and I know that it is not possible to win it by playing as we have been playing, “he says at Sport.
