Messi: “In the Champions League, the best team doesn’t always win”

Lionel Messi faced Real Madrid again. This time it was not in LaLiga. Nor with the Barcelona shirt. The Argentine was not the player who gave PSG victory against Real Madrid, but his team won and the common goal was fulfilled: to win. Something that continues to increase his achievements against the team that was his rival for years. He is still lethal when he faces the whites: in 46 games, he has 20 wins, 11 draws and 15 losses.

In his private locker, he accumulates 26 goals and 14 assists. Not bad, especially considering that you have an opportunity very soon to continue expanding this data. It will be on March 9, when Messi has the option to hurt the Madridistas again. Real Madrid is still one of Leo Messi’s favorite victims. The Santiago Bernabéu awaits him in three weeks.

In an interview in PSG Magazine, Messi He talks about the difficulty of beating any team in the Champions League and highlights the victory against Real Madrid, the most successful team in this competition: “It is difficult to win the Champions League, because it is a competition that brings together the best teams and where the minimal detail, the slightest mistake can eliminate you. I think we have a team that can try to win it. We are excited about this idea and we have high hopes of reaching it, but we have to take it easy. I repeat, it is difficult to win the Champions League. The best team doesn’t always win.

Messi emphasizes the importance of being a team: “Great teams have to be good in all areas of the field, in all their lines both in defense and attack. I think that this depends on the ability of a team to play as such . Forwards can’t just attack and defenders can’t just defend. It is necessary to form a strong and united team both in the defensive phase and in the offensive. This is the guideline that will allow us to be a fully competitive team. A team that will try to win the Champions League, as well as all the titles that we are in a position to win.”

Messi, very active

Against Madrid, in the Parc des Princes, he participated in the monologue given by the Parisian team against Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Despite having missed a penalty, one of his pending issues, he was very active during the 90′ he was on the pitch. Combining perfectly with his strike partners (Mbappé and Di María, later also with Neymar) and delaying his position to combine with the midfielders. He especially seemed very comfortable with Verratti, one of the fundamental pieces of PSG’s game.
