Mertens defends her title in Monastir and Siniakova wins the longest final of 2023

Korpatsch premiered his record in Cluj-Napoca

MADRID, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Belgian tennis player Elise Mertens repeated her title this Sunday at the Monastir tournament (Tunisia) by beating the Italian Jasmine Paolini in the final, while the German Tamara Korpatsch debuted her record in Romania and the Czech Katerina Siniakova won the longest final in 2023, that of the Nanchang tournament (China).

Mertens destroyed Paolini, winning the last 10 games of the title match in the Tunisian event that he already won last year. With a resounding 6-3, 6-0, the Belgian signed a week without giving up a set, to once again lift a title since she did it on this same stage 12 months ago, the eighth of her career.

On the other hand, Korpatsch defeated local favorite Elena-Gabriela Ruse to win the Cluj-Napoca (Romania) tournament, 6-3, 6-4 that gave her the first WTA title of her career. In addition, on Sunday she left the longest final of the season on the women’s circuit, three and a half hours, with Siniakova’s 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) victory over her compatriot Marie Bouzkova.
