Mérida and Rincón reach the quarterfinals; Ane Mintegi, eliminated

Daniel Mérida Aguilar and Daniel Rincón continue ahead in the men's draw of the junior tournament at Roland Garros, while Ane Mintegi del Olmo was eliminated in the female category.

Mérida, a 16-year-old from Madrid, came back with great merit against the 17-year-old French striker Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg: 3-6, 6-2 and 6-3 in 1:42. He will face on Thursday in the quarterfinals another local player, Luca Van Assche, who a few days ago raced at the Philippe Chatrier with Novak Djokovic.

Rincón, 18-year-old from Avila, a disciple of the Rafa Nadal Academy and eighth favorite, defeated American Victor Lilov in two sets (double 6-3 in 75 minutes). He will face 16-year-old Frenchman Arthur Fils, 14th seed.

Mintegi, a 17-year-old from Donostia, could not counter the striking power of Czech Linda Noskova, 16, and fell 6-0, 6-2 in 58 minutes.

Borg's son, eliminated

Leo Borg, 18-year-old son of the great Bjorn Borg, fell in the round of 16 to the first seed of the tournament, Chinese Juncheng Shang, who won despite playing with discomfort by 7-6 (5), 3-6 and 7-6 (4) in 2:37.
