Mendy, goodbye to the season

Bad news for Zinedine Zidane: Ferland Mendy (25 years old) suffers from tibial periostitis, as reported by the club through a medical report. The French defender will practically miss the remainder of the season. According to Dr. González, it is an injury that “is not serious. It is usually caused by overuse, overload and stress. It is not serious, but it is heavy in time. It requires rest treatment and rehabilitation. It can usually last about three weeks”. For Zidane it is a new setback, since his ability to mount a guarantee behind just when he is playing to retain the league title is limited: Marcelo finished with a strong blow in the match against Sevilla, although it should not be a problem for him to play against Granada on Thursday (10pm).

Mendy was injured against Liverpool at Anfield. But it was not until last April 27 that it became known. That day, the club issued a statement on the Frenchman's physical condition. At that time I suffered from an overload in the soleus of the left leg. He had ended up with muscle aches after beating Liverpool in the quarterfinals, but that's when his pain began. Since then he has not played any league games: he missed the duels against Getafe, Cádiz, Betis, Osasuna and Sevilla. He forced to play the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Chelsea (he played 64 minutes), but it was seen that he was not fully recovered. Despite training with the rest of his teammates on Saturday, before facing Sevilla, he was low. After being examined, he has been diagnosed with this tibial periostitis.

Ferland Mendy's data in this campaign.

The French defender He has played 3,260 minutes between all competitions, being one of Zidane's fixtures throughout the campaign. He has only missed 11 games out of 49 games that Madrid has played throughout the season (he has played 26 league games, 11 in the Champions League and one in the Spanish Super Cup). Of those 11 games, five were due to Zidane's decision to leave him on the bench, and the rest, six, due to injury. He has scored two goals, one against Getafe in the League and the other against Atalanta in the Champions League. But it seems that the 2020-21 campaign is over for the French defender …
