Mendilibar says goodbye to Sevilla: “It has been a short, but extraordinarily intense stage”

MADRID, 10 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former Sevilla coach José Luis Mendilibar said goodbye to the Nervionense entity this Tuesday, ensuring that his stage was “short”, but “extraordinarily intense”, at the same time that he thanked the “work and effort” of the squad and was “proud of become a small part of the history” of the club, after lifting the Europa League last season.

“My time with you has been short but we will agree that it was extraordinarily intense,” wrote the coach, dismissed this Sunday, in a farewell letter published on the Seville club’s website.

Sevilla FC announced this Sunday the dismissal of Mendilibar due to the lack of positive results this campaign, after the draw ‘in extremis’ on Saturday against Rayo Vallecano and adding only 2 wins in 11 games. Thus, Mendilibar saw his time on the Nervión bench end after 28 games.

The Basque coach took charge of the team last March, in the middle of an agonizing season after the early dismissal of Julen Lopetegui and, later, that of Jorge Sampaoli. ‘Mendi’ worked the miracle of resurrecting Sevilla, involved in the fight for salvation for many days, until winning the Europa League, a title that allowed him to renew.

Now, Mendilibar wanted to thank the leaders who chose him in the final stretch of last year to lead the Sevilla team. In addition, he addressed all the club’s workers, “who have made day-to-day life in the sports city very easy”; to the ‘staff’, “for their work and for always being attentive to what he might need at all times”; and to the players, “who with their work and effort have been the main protagonists” of the achievements.

“And above all, to those Sevilla fans, who from the first moment until today have shown me all their support and all their affection and without their passion and encouragement, it would have been impossible to achieve what I achieved,” he said about the fans. .

Mendilibar ended his message by stating that he leaves “friends in the club and in a Seville that will always” be considered his “home.” I am also proud, after the night in Budapest, to become a small part of the history of this great club. “I have nothing left but to wish the best of futures to a Sevilla FC that I will always carry in my heart,” he concluded.
