Melendo, prince of Cornellà: “On Monday we want the title”

Oscar Melendo He has not been the undisputed starter, he has not been part of that spinal column that has been a starter in most of the games of the Spanish in this transit through LaLiga SmartBank. But the midfielder, with his signature game, has collaborated especially in the RCDE Stadium that the parakeet team has starred in its best year at the stadium and has forged promotion at home: “At home we were very solid,” the youth squad commented to Espanyol TV.

Melendo played 15 of his 26 games at the Blue and White stadium, where he also scored the first goal of the season against Albecete. Consolidated as a playmaker, his ideal position, he left the line-ups due to COVID-19, a disease that led him to the substitution and the appearance of other players such as Nico Melamed, who has stolen prominence due to his similarities on the field. “I've had better moments and worse moments, like everyone else, but I always tried to go full, as I say,” he said.

Another of the circumstances that has stolen weight was the appearance of Nany Dimata and the couple she has formed in attack with Raúl de Tomás. The change of system from 4-2-3-1 to 4-4-2 detracted from the youth squad's presence, a player who, mainly, acts with performance in that position behind the striker and lying on the right side.

In the first round, Sant Adrià started 14 games, for only seven in this second. On Monday against Tenerife he aims to start: “We wanted, we have in mind to win the championship. We are looking forward to Monday and achieving the other goal. We want to finish the game as soon as possible, we are going for the games ”, reflected a footballer who in Ponferrada was also one of the most prominent.

With a contract in force, Melendo is a differential piece for Vicente Moreno's Espanyol, so next season he will continue to be one of the permanent fixtures of the squad. Since debuting in 2016, the midfielder accumulates 135 official matches with the first team in First, Second, King's Cup and Europa League.
