Australia's commitment to eradicating the pandemic has been more than evident in recent days. In fact, the imposition of the authorities that forced tennis players to quarantine when landing in the oceanic country was what forced the tournament to find new dates. The tennis players, who will arrive from January 15 to 17, must serve two weeks in confinement before they can compete.
That is why, in order to hold the tournament in the best possible conditions, the city of Melbourne and the state to which it belongs, Victoria, have been applying strict measures for some time. The state closed its borders with those with a high rate of infections, and Melbourne has just finished a strict lockdown which managed to set the case counter to zero. And with it, bad news has arrived for the Australian city.
After 61 days in a row without registering a single case of coronavirus, Melbourne authorities have confirmed this Wednesday that three positives have been detected for COVID in the city. They are two women in their 40s and another in their 70s, who live in Melbourne neighborhoods. Now, it remains to be seen if the city reapplies measures to prevent the virus from spreading.
