Medvedev joins Djokovic, Nadal and Thiem at ATP Finals

Russia's Daniil Medvedev has become the fourth individual player to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals, which will take place November 15-22 at the O2 in London.

The recent US Open semi-finalist joins Serbian Novak Djokovic, Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Austrian Dominic Thiem on the 50th anniversary of the tournament since its inception in 1970, reports the organization.

Medvedev, who debuted this tournament last year, is the first Russian player to qualify in consecutive years since 2009 ATP Nitto Finals champion Nikolay Davydenko (2005-2009).

The current champion of this tournament, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, is the next one waiting to qualify. The German Alexander Zverev, surpassed by Thiem in his first Grand Slam final at the US Open this Sunday, is also among the candidates to return to the O2 in London, which this season says goodbye to this stage where he arrived in 2009, to pass to Turin in 2021 and continue in this Italian city until 2025.

Two years ago, Zverev became the first German champion in the season-ending tournament since Boris Becker in 1995.

In addition, the Brazilian Bruno Soares and the Croatian Mate Pavic, have also qualified and are the second couple to do so, after the British Joe Salisbury and the American Rajeev Ram, Australian Open champions.

In accordance with current British Government protocols, the ATP plans to hold the ATP Nitto Finals this year behind closed doors due to the active COVID-19 pandemic.
