Medvedev and the Peng Shuai case: “No one would feel comfortable playing in China”

Daniil Medvedev has been the last tennis voice to pronounce on the WTA’s decision not to hold its tournaments in China Until the whole truth is clarified about the complaint of sexual assault by tennis player Peng Shuai, of whom the WTA has doubts that she is safe and sound despite the versions offered by the Chinese Government.

Medvedev admits that right now it would be very uncomfortable to go and play in China, although he hopes the ATP will make a decision on this before the start of the Asian tour next fall. “If there was a tournament in China next week, nobody would feel comfortable. However, the next ATP tournament in the country is in the fall. We’ll see what happens.”

The Moscow tennis player also wanted to affirm that, in addition to China, there are other countries that have problems and that, despite this, tournaments are held there. “There are problems in many other countries and yet we play tournaments in many of them. What we all want is to see that Peng is doing well, something we still don’t know one hundred percent “

Finally Medvedev applauded the WTA’s decision not to hold its tournaments in China, something Novak Djokovic has also done, and was skeptical whether the ATP will make the same decision. “The WTA has made a very brave decision, but I will not blame anyone if the same decision is not made. Perhaps Andrea Gaudenzi (president of the ATP) has a different vision. I do not mean by this who does it well or badly. “
