McConnell announces that impeachment trial against Trump will begin next Tuesday in the Senate

The majority leader in the United States Senate, Republican Mitch McConnell, has announced that the political trial (impeachment) against the president, Donald Trump, in the Senate will begin next Tuesday, January 21, as reported by the local newspaper Political.

If the House of Representatives sends the two articles of the political trial against the president to the Senate on Wednesday, as planned, the Senate could finally give the green light to the process.

The lower house already approved almost a month ago the charges for which Trump will be tried in the Senate – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress – so that the process is pending the sending of said charges and the designation of the Democrats who will act as prosecutors.

The president of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, confirmed on Tuesday in a closed meeting the calendar to follow. “The vote will be tomorrow,” Congressman Henry Cuellar said at the exit of the meeting.

Pelosi has decided to take the step even though he has failed to agree with McConnell on the terms of the budding process, among other issues to clarify whether witnesses can be summoned to the hearings.
