Kylian Mbappé, great star of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), was included this Monday in the previous list of Sylvain Ripoll, France's Under-21 coach, for the football tournament of the Tokyo Olympic Games, which will take place on the 22nd from July to August 7. It's a roster of 85 players.
Mbappé has never hidden that he would like to play the Games, but it will not be easy. Barring a setback, the young forward will take part under Didier Deschamps with the A team at Euro 2021, which takes place between June 11 and July 11. If France reached the final, it would be 11 days before the start of the Games, which are not part of the FIFA dates, so the clubs have no obligation to release their players.
PSG is not in favor of Mbappé playing the Games, but, taking into account that his contract ends in 2022 and the Parisian club seeks its renewal, allowing him to attend the Olympic event would be an important concession.
André-Pierre Gignac (Tigres UANL) and Colin Dagba (PSG) are also on this pre-list. At 22, Mbappé would not be part of the three players over 23 that Ripoll (the French U21 coach and who will lead the French Olympian in Tokyo) can summon. Yes, one of them would be Gignac, 35. The final list, of 18 players, plus 4 reserves, must be communicated to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) before the end of June.
