Mass mobilization in Bordeaux against the bankruptcy of the club

More than a thousand Girondins de Bordeaux fans They took to the streets yesterday to protest the delicate situation that the historic Frenchman is experiencing. Last Friday, King Street, already a former owner of the club, announced that it would stop supporting the Girondins de Bordeaux financially and he left the management of the team in bankruptcy administration. The debt, which amounts to more than 60 million and could reach 80, it can trigger an administrative demotion to the French fifth division.

Since he arrived in 2018, King Street's management at the Girondins de Bordeaux has gone from bad to worse. The club has gone from fighting to enter Europe to being on the verge of relegation this season and both the payroll and the operating deficit, estimated at 60 million in 2021, have been increasing over the years. The ultras had already called for the resignation of the Americans in 2019 in a field invasion during a match against Nîmes and in which they protested the controversial King Street ticket sales, which alleged that there was soldout in cheaper areas of the stadium and it sold tickets above its price in more expensive sectors.

The situation for the club is borderline. If you cannot find a buyer to pay off the debt before the end of the season, Girondins would lose all points and the Ligue 1 classification would be recalculated. If you find buyers and the debt is paid at the end of the season, They would take away 15 points, that is, it would go down to Ligue 2. The best possible scenario is that a buyer appears who pays off the debt before the end of Ligue 1 and, in that case, the Bordeaux group would not suffer any consequences. At the moment, the City Council is turning to try to find an investor as soon as possible and avoid a historic crisis in the Girondins de Bordeaux.
