Martin Schiller, new coach of Casademont Zaragoza

MADRID, 24 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Austrian coach Martin Schiller, 40, has become the new coach of Casademont Zaragoza this Friday, according to the Aragonese entity after reaching an agreement for the 2022-23 season.

Schiller, who has served as an assistant coach for the German national team since 2015, made the solo jump to manage the Salt Lake City Stars of the G-League in 2017, in the NBA development league. Two years later he returned to Europe, backed by his successes, to take charge of Zalgiris Kaunas.

In Lithuania, Schiller won the League and the Cup and also played in the Euroleague, where he could not avoid finishing bottom. His arrival is well received at the Casademont Zaragoza. This is how Toni Muedra, sports director of the hands, explains it.

“Schiller is still a young coach who is beginning to accumulate some experience at the international level after passing through competitions as diverse as the G-League, the Euroleague and the Lithuanian league with Zalgiris. He has been covering stages, being an assistant, working with lower categories, with young people and training alongside good coaches both in Germany and abroad,” he said.

“In the G-League he was chosen coach of the year and showed his ability not only as a team coach but also to develop players, which is the reason for the existence of that competition. During his time in Zalgiris and a competition like the Euroleague, he did well work, with a team that offensively played attractive basketball, very interesting, with the influence of North American basketball”, he added.

In this sense, Muedra recalled that they are betting “on a coach with room to grow.” “He comes with great enthusiasm to work within the idea of the club, to improve the players. We want him to immerse himself in the club’s philosophy, to get to know a competition as demanding as the ACB. He arrives with great enthusiasm and the desire to do well. We will help him from the club to integrate quickly, make a good team and be competitive,” he said.
