Martín de la Puente is left without an individual final at Roland Garros, but agrees to the ‘semis’ in doubles

MADRID, 8 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Martín de la Puente was eliminated this Thursday in the semifinals of the individual draw at Roland Garros, which is played on clay, after falling 6-2, 7-6(6) against the Japanese Tokito Oda, but he did He entered the same round of the men’s doubles draw together with the Argentine Gustavo Fernández, beating the Japanese Daisuke Arai and Takuya Miki 6-1, 7-6(3).

De la Puente, who the day before had become the first Spaniard to qualify for the penultimate round of a ‘Grand Slam’ tournament, this time was left with honey on his lips after his defeat in just over an hour and a half over Court 13. Not surprisingly, Oda broke his first two service turns and accelerated to tie up the first set.

In the second round, the man from Vigo started more successful and even went up 0-2 and 1-3. However, his opponent reduced that disadvantage and finished off the ‘job’ in the tiebreaker to seal his qualification for the grand final for the title. There he will play against the British Alfie Hewett, executioner of Gustavo Fernández himself (6-2 and 6-2).

Hours later, De la Puente and Fernández healed their injuries, beating Arai and Miki in the quarterfinals. The Spanish-Argentine duo was impressive in the opening round and also came back from 2-4 to the ‘tie-break’, where they soon took the lead. The Frenchman Stéphane Houdet and the Japanese Takashi Sanada will be his next rivals.
