Martín Calderón goes to Paços

Martín Calderón (21 years old) is on loan to Paços de Ferreira, a club in the Portuguese first division. As AS has learned, the operation has been closed after the white youth squad renewed his contract with Real Madrid: it ended in 2021 and it has been extended until 2022. The wish of both parties is thus fulfilled, since the player does not want to to disassociate from the club that has formed him and the whites do not want to get rid of a player in whom they have high hopes for the future, either to return to the first team or to include him in an operation. They think that he is a footballer who will undoubtedly make an interesting career in the First Division.

The transfer includes a purchase option for Paços at the end of the season, but it is only for 50% of the player's rights, in such a way that Real Madrid would continue to have control over its future should it explode. The player will travel to Portugal this Thursday to sign his new contract and be officially presented in the next few hours or days.

Thus Martín Calderón ends, at least temporarily, a successful stage as a Real Madrid player. He came to Cadet B from Sevilla in the 2013-14 season and since then he has been important in all categories until he reached Castilla, where he has played the last two seasons. He is a very complete midfielder, with physical power, good ball touch and a powerful shot.

His good performance at Real Madrid has also served to attract the attention of the Spanish National Team, where he has been called up in all categories. He is now of Under-21 age and is confident that this step forward will help him gain the trust of a Luis de la Fuente who already trusted him when he was the Under-19 coach. De la Fuente always repeats that for him one of the priorities is that young players have many minutes and, if it is in First, the better. That is why Martín Calderón follows in the footsteps of another Under-21, Pepelu, who has become a fixture at La Rojita after billiards last year at Tondela.
