Martic, 15 in the world, ended up beating Samsonova, 117 in the ranking, by 5-7, 6-4 and 6-2 to join Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who made it to the quarterfinals on Wednesday at the expense of Italy's Jasmine Paolini.
