Marta Fernández breaks the world record in the 100 breaststroke SB3 at the Berlin World Series

MADRID, 31 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish swimmer Marta Fernández broke the world record on Thursday in the 100-meter breaststroke SB3 discipline, of the World Swimming Series that is being held in Berlin, thanks to a stopwatch of 2 minutes, 7 seconds and 39 hundredths.

The Burgos woman was the queen of the day in German waters with a double world record. Marta was able to achieve the record in the morning session and -in the afternoon- she lowered her own mark by up to two seconds (2: 09.15) to make history in adapted swimming.

With this record that snatches the American Leanne Smith, who had a record of 2:09.30 since January 2020, Marta Fernández extends her excellent 2021, in which she won a total of seven medals in the European Championship and three medals -one gold, a silver and a bronze – at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

“I have felt very comfortable swimming, it is a very fast pool and I am happy with the world record,” said the Spanish swimmer in statements to the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Cerebral Palsy and Acquired Brain Injury.
