Marseille overcomes its pothole at the expense of Brest

An assist and a goal highlighted the contribution of Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik in Brest (1-4), where Olympique Marseille came out of the doldrums to regain second place in Ligue 1 and calm the situation of their coach, Argentine Jorge Sampaoli.

With only one of the last nine points at stake won, the Marseille team faced its visit to the Francis Le Ble stadium to face a rival that has already found peace in the competition and is now competing for statistical objectives for its history such as achieving the best ranking in the highest category of French football, above fourteenth place.

Sampaoli’s team didn’t have much time to accuse the pressure due to the need for points, which got the match back on track after three minutes. Matteo Guendouzi recovered the ball in midfield and sent it to Milik. The Polish striker assisted Gerson who beat Marco Bizot.

Brest lacked conviction, failing to chain two consecutive wins so far this season. He beat Lens on the last date and wanted to extend the streak in the visit of a rival in low hours.

Marseille sentenced at the hour of play in a corner kick launched by the Moroccan Amine Harit who headed Milik into the net.

Sampaoli, with the duel closed, withdrew the Pole twenty minutes from the end to give Cedric Bakambu minutes. In minute 71, Harit scored the third that rounded off the visiting victory and, in added time, the clash broke out without influence: Irvin Cardona signed the goal of local honor and the Turkish Cengiz Under established the win.

The triumph propitiates that the Marseille recovers the second place. The goal difference puts them ahead of Nice who have the same points. Fifteen away is Paris Saint Germain who with ten games to go have the title in hand.
