Márquez will race in Assen: “I want to leave behind the hard weekend in Germany”

MADRID, 20 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish MotoGP rider Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) will compete in the Netherlands Grand Prix, the eighth round of the season and the last before the summer break, with the aim of “leaving behind the hard weekend in Germany”, in which He suffered five falls that prevented him from participating in the race last Sunday, his team reported in a statement on Monday.

“I come to Assen looking forward to putting the tough weekend in Germany behind me. We have one more race before the summer break and the aim is to collect a lot of good data for the engineers to work with over the next few weeks. This is the approach for At the weekend, we have to remain calm and face the GP with a clear plan,” said the rider in a statement shared by the Repsol Honda team.

The Dutch Grand Prix, which takes place at the Assen Circuit, will be the eighth round of the season and the last one before the July ‘holidays’ in the category. The eight-time world champion will land there after a difficult weekend at the Sachsenring, where he suffered five crashes this weekend, more than any other weekend in his career.

The last one, in the MotoGP ‘warm up’ at the German Grand Prix and in which he suffered a fractured thumb on his left hand, prevented him from getting on his Honda in the race on the German circuit, as as Márquez himself decided.

The man from Cervera hopes to recover good feelings on the Dutch track, where he has been on the podium 10 times and has garnered 5 victories -1 in 125cc, 2 in Moto2 and 2 in MotoGP-, 4 second places in MotoGP and 1 third, also in the premier class.

In addition, the Repsol Honda team announced that the Valencian Iker Lecuona will replace Joan Mir, who continues to recover with the aim of returning to the British Grand Prix. The Superbike rider already got on the Honda RC213V at the last Spanish GP, when he replaced Marc Márquez.

“I want to wish Joan all the best in his recovery. I’m excited to join the team again, it’s a real honour. Assen is a circuit that I like, I got my first podium there – it was third – in WorldSBK, so I hope that we can have another good weekend. I’m still recovering a bit from the crash at Misano, so it will also be a good physical test,” Lecuona said in statements included in the statement.
