Maroto: “There is no problem with Djokovic if he delivers”

The Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, spoke this Wednesday about what happened with Novak Djokovic in Australia for not being vaccinated and he considered that the people who have “a special public relevance and leadership, have to make a special effort and set an exemplary pattern.”

“From this point of view, vaccination is extremely important,” said the Catalan politician at the presentation of the Spanish Screenings XXL initiative in statements to the media.

Iceta stressed that what must be done “always” is to “comply with the laws” and thanked the statements made by the Spanish tennis player, Rafa Nadal, who also defended compliance with the rules.

The Serbian tennis player, Novak Djokovic, was deported this Sunday, after an Australian court authorized the cancellation of his visa, on a second occasion, for not being vaccinated. In this way, he will not be able to defend his title at the Australian Open.

Reyes Maroto: “There is no problem” if he meets the conditions

Also this Wednesday, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, spoke pointed out that if the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic meets the conditions imposed by Spain to enter, “there is no problem” in doing so, while highlighting the “example” that Spanish athletes such as Rafael Nadal have given, to favor Get people vaccinated against Covid-19.

“We have some restrictions on mobility that are known – the digital certificate of vaccination or a negative diagnostic test –– therefore if the tennis player meets any of these two characteristics, he will be able to enter Spain”, explained this Wednesday the head of Industry at the Galician stand in Fitur, which has opened its doors today until January 23.

In this sense, asked about the controversy surrounding the tennis player and his expulsion from Australia, where he was going to participate in a competition, Not being vaccinated against the coronavirus, he stressed that there is another debate that is “much deeper” and that has to do with the individual “ethics and responsibility” of each one. This has highlighted the “example” of the Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal when it comes to encouraging people to get vaccinated, “which is the best tool to combat the pandemic.”

“Clearly I believe that the issue is one of responsibility, of what sport projects, but it is also of values. I stay with ours, with the Spanish athletes who have known that vaccination was also a way of convincing others to get vaccinated. That also reinforces the Spain brand, the safe brand,” he concluded.
