The man from Salamanca breaks a record of 38 years

The Spanish athlete Mario García Romo broke the Spanish record for the mile this Saturday with a mark of 3:47.69 in the final of the Diamond League in Eugene, a national record for more than 38 years.

Last week in Brussels, the man from Salamanca set the Spanish record for the 2,000 meters and this Saturday, at the legendary Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene where he was fourth in the 1,500 at the World Cup last year, he set the mile record.

García Romo broke the mark that José Luis González from Toledo had had since 1985 in Oslo (3:47.79), in a race in which the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen established a new European record with a time of 3:43.73.
