Marianne Vos repeats her victory in Sigüenza and Demi Vollering keeps the red before arriving in Madrid

MADRID, 4 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Dutch cyclist Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) has conquered this Saturday the seventh and penultimate stage of La Vuelta Femenina 24 by Carrefour.es, of 138.6 kilometers between San Esteban de Gormaz (Soria) and Sigüenza (Guadalajara), while the also Dutch Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx-Protime) has managed to retain the lead before the final stage.

In an eminently flat stage and with only 1,075 meters of accumulated slope, Vos, 36 years old, stood out in the final sprint to take his second partial victory in this Vuelta after the one achieved in the third stage in Teruel and number 253 of his career.

With this victory, classification by points for the Spanish round is mathematically assured. Meanwhile, the American Kristen Faulkner (EF Education-Cannondale) and the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek) completed the podium of the day, two seconds behind the winner.

Meanwhile, Vollering, who donned the red jersey in the fifth stage, controlled his advantage and also entered the finish line in the leading group, two seconds behind his compatriot, so he will arrive in Madrid as the leader. Thus, she will have to defend the 52 seconds with which she leads Elisa Longo Borghini in the general standings, while the Dutch Riejanne Markus (Visma-Lease a Bike) is third at 1:14.

Once the 32 kilometer stage had been completed, a first breakaway group was consolidated with Laura Tomasi (Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi), Anna Kiesenhofer (Roland), Yuliia Biriukova (Human Powered Health), Veronica Ewers (EF Education-Cannondale), Angela Oro ( Bepink-Bongioanni), Quinty Schoens (Volkerwessels) and Stina Kagevi (Coop-Repsol), who managed to stay at the head of the race for about 40 kilometers.

The Visma-Lease a Bike and the Movistar Team managed to neutralize the breakaways at kilometer 73 of the stage, although the Olympic champion Anna Kiesenhofer (Roland) started another breakaway alone, which was finally joined by seven riders. Again, this attempt was caught 38 kilometers from the finish line, in a windy area after the Barahona intermediate sprint.

The fans led to a leading group of up to 30 cyclists, which included the general favorites. With only 10 kilometers to go, Mischa Bredewold and Marlen Reusser (Team SD Worx-Protime) tried to surprise, but all attempts were frustrated and everything was decided in a reduced sprint in which Vos triumphed.

The second edition of the Spanish women’s round will be decided this Sunday with the eighth and final stage, 89.5 kilometers from the Telefónica District of Madrid to the Valdesquí station, with a high finish. It will be the most mountainous day of the edition, in which the first category climbs to Puerto de la Morcuera and Puerto de Cotos will be faced just before meeting the winner of the event.
