María de Valdés finishes fifth in the final of 5 kilometers

The Spanish swimmer María de Valdés has finished in fifth position in the final of the 5-kilometre open water event of the World Swimming Championships, which are taking place in Budapest, while Ángela Martínez has signed a fourteenth place.

The woman from Malaga was able to recover from the harsh disqualification on Sunday in the relay to sign an excellent performance at Lake Lupa, where she entered the leading group in the first ‘curve’ and after the first lap of the circuit she was tenth.

In the second lap, De Valdés gained three places to position herself with the best, and entered seventh in the last lap before improving two places to guarantee herself the ‘Top 5’ and cross the finish line in 57:59.00. For her part, the rookie from Elche Angela Martínez knew how to come back from the twenty-fifth to the fourteenth final position (1: 00: 49.50).

The gold went to the Brazilian Ana Marcela Cunha (57:52.90), who beat the French Aurelie Muller (57:53.80) and the Italian Giulia Gabbrielleschi (57:54.90) in the final sprint.
