Marcos Mauro, Cádiz's weapon from a set piece

Marcos Mauro is facing his fourth season with Cádiz with the same enthusiasm as the first day. A defender who without having been a regular fixture in the eleven, has had a lot of prominence since his arrival. The Argentine is to the liking of Cervera, who knows that he can always count on his services when he needs it. And if he also responds with important goals, success is assured. Even though marking is not your task, the center-back has seen the door five times since landing in Cádiz. curiously all came from set pieces, four of them headed and served to add six more points in the yellow team locker.

In his first season (2017-18) he played 23 games, but failed to see the door. In the second (2018-19) yes, and twice. First to put the 1-2 on the scoreboard against Córdoba, on matchday 14. Corner taken by Aketxe and Marcos Mauro enters with everything to finish off with the head. Cádiz ended up winning the match 1-3. Eleven days later he again appeared at the rival goal against Alcorcón. This time took advantage of a rejection of Aketxe's shot (at the exit of a corner), to score at the far post and with the right foot. His goal meant 1-1, of a match that Cádiz would end up winning 1-2.

Last year (2019-20) he saw the door again on two occasions. On matchday 14, against Sporting, he made it 1-0 with his head, in a corner thrown by Álex. The match ended 3-1. Two days later he scored his second goal of the season against Tenerife. His header, a pass from Espino in a lateral foul, put the final 1-1 on the scoreboard.

And finally this weekend, he took advantage of the minutes he had on the field against Valencia, in the form of his first goal so far this season. His goal, which made it 2-1 in the 88th minute, gives Cádiz a ball of oxygen, which now sees the relegation places much further away (eight points). On this occasion, the Argentine took advantage of a second play at the exit of a corner, in a center to the area measured by Alejo. His header was unstoppable. “I'm happy to help the team and also personally, because it gives confidence to face the games that remain. Hopefully it will serve to achieve permanence “, said Marcos Mauro for the Cádiz website once the game is over.
