Marcelo will leave Madrid next summer, after 16 years at the white club. The full-back has had several offers to continue playing in Europe, but the newspaper ‘Olé’ reveals that The future of the Brazilian defender is to return to Fluminense, a club from which he arrived at Madrid in 2006 when he was 18 years old.
Marcelo has decided to return to Brazil with the idea of feeling important again and gaining the prominence that allows him to play the 2022 World Cup. The defender knows that if he has a good few months at Fluminense, he has options to be at the Qatar event.
Marcelo’s prominence in Madrid has fallen exponentially in recent seasons. The full-back has gone from being one of the key pieces of the team to becoming a residual footballer. Last season he only played 19 games and a total of 1,339 minutes, while in the current one he has only participated in five games and 140 minutes. In the general calculation of his 15 seasons at Madrid, he has played 533 games, scored 38 goals and provided 101 assists.
