Marc Márquez imposes his authority in Aragon and will start from pole position ahead of Acosta

MADRID, 31 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish rider Marc Márquez (Ducati) has taken pole position for the Aragon Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the World Championship, thanks to a stratospheric time of 1:46.766, 0.840 seconds ahead of Spaniard Pedro Acosta (KTM), who will start second, while Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) will close the front row, with Jorge Martín (Ducati) in fourth position.

Marc Márquez has shown his authority at the Motorland circuit in Aragón during qualifying for the Grand Prix, taking pole position with an advantage of more than eight tenths of a second over Pedro Acosta, who finished second. The Catalan has dominated all of the qualifying sessions this weekend, and will start from pole position for the second time this season in Sunday’s race after taking pole position in Jerez.

Marc Márquez will be followed by Spaniard Pedro Acosta. The Mazarrón rider, who made it to Q2 as the fastest in Q1, achieved a creditable second position, which is his best position on a Moto GP starting grid. The KTM rider knew how to take advantage of Marc Márquez’s wheel to set his best time in the final attempt, beating Pecco Bagnaia, who will start third, by just two thousandths of a second.

The second-placed rider in the championship, Jorge Martín, had the most problems and will not be on the front row, having finished fourth in qualifying, although less than half a tenth behind Bagnaia. The Spaniard, who crashed at the start of qualifying at turn five of the circuit, went against the flow throughout Q2, although he finally managed to minimise the damage with a fourth place that keeps him very much alive in the fight for Sunday’s race.

The other four Spanish riders who took part in Q2 finished fifth for Álex Márquez (Ducati), ninth for Raúl Fernández (Aprilia), eleventh for Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) and twelfth for Maverick Viñales (Aprilia).

The activity will resume at the Motorland Aragón circuit at 3:00 p.m. with the Moto GP sprint race. Before that, the Moto 3 and Moto 2 riders will battle it out for pole position on Sunday from 12:50 p.m.
