Marc Márquez also misses the Spanish GP

MADRID, 26 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish MotoGP rider Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) will also miss the Spanish Grand Prix that takes place at the Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto because he is not yet ready for the injury that occurred in the hand in the first race of the season played in Portugal and his position will be occupied by his compatriot Iker Lecuona.

As reported by his team on Wednesday, the eight-time world champion underwent a review on Tuesday at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid to see the evolution of the intra-articular fracture of the first metacarpal of the right hand that was made in Portimao and for which he was operated. four weeks ago.

The clinical and radiological evolution of this injury was considered “satisfactory” by the doctors, but, “due to the nature of the fracture and the time elapsed”, the team led by Doctor Roger de Oña together with that of Cervera, “They have decided to continue with their recovery and preparation over the next few weeks and focus their possible return on the French Grand Prix, from May 12 to 14.”

The race in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) will be the third that the Catalan rider has missed after not having been able to race either in Argentina or the United States, which means that he only adds to the World Cup standings the seven points achieved in the Portuguese sprint.

Repsol Honda also announced that this time it will be the Spanish Iker Lecuona, from Team HRC in WorldSBK, and not the German Stefan Bradl, tester, who will replace Marc Márquez at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Valencian will compete again in MotoGP where he was already in the 2020 and 2021 seasons on the back of a KTM.

“This Tuesday we did another CT scan and it has been confirmed that, despite the fact that the injury is progressing favourably, the bone has not yet finished healing and that racing in Jerez was risky,” Márquez warned in statements provided by his team.

The Spanish driver does not want to “take risks” and is going to “wait two more weeks and return to Le Mans”. “I am very sorry to miss the Spanish Grand Prix because it is always special, because of the atmosphere, for racing at home and, above all, for seeing and enjoying the fans. I will continue with my rehabilitation and I will work to be back as soon as possible”, sentenced.
