Marbella FC of the Spanish Third Division condemns and denounces the racist insults towards its player Papa Malick in the match played at CF Motril’s home, which ended 2-1 for the locals, with chants of ‘monkey’ included in the arbitration report.
“Marbella Fútbol Club condemns and publicly denounces the very serious and repeated racist insults uttered from the stands of the Escribano Castilla stadium against our player Papa Malick during the CF Motril-Marbella FC match played yesterday, Sunday,” the club denounced in a statement.
From the Marbella club they denounce that in the 68th minute some twenty Motril fans shouted “monkey, monkey, monkey” at Papa Malick, and that they did so “repeatedly” according to the referee.
“This visibly affected player wanted to leave the field of play, but several teammates convinced him to continue playing the game, and I guaranteed him that if this happened again, I would suspend the game definitively. Finally, he continued to play the game”, pointed out the collegiate.
Thus, Marbella will denounce the facts in defense of its player and all those who feel discriminated against due to race, sexual orientation, or any retrograde attack within a soccer field, protected by the Sports Law.
“No athlete should be publicly racially abused while playing a match. The damage sustained in these circumstances is profound and irreparable. Resuming the match was grossly irresponsible because Malick was in no mental or physical condition to continue competing. The only reason why the one that the player continued playing was for fear of an administrative defeat”, the club pointed out.
“Marbella FC wants to show its maximum support for Malick. We will fight this time and always against racism and any type of discrimination so that these types of events end definitively. We will demand that what happened yesterday receives an exemplary response from the institutions”, the entity added.
