Manuel Díaz ‘El Cordobés’ retires from the arena: “I’m not sad”

Bullfighter Manuel Diaz “El Cordoba” He has announced that he is retiring from the arena in 2023, the year that coincides with his thirtieth anniversary since he took the alternative. The 54-year-old right-hander has made it public through a video posted on his Instagram account, in which he himself explains his decision looking at the camera and affirms: “I’m not sad. I’m happy. It will close a cycle of my life who has given me everything, who has made me happy”.

The Andalusian maestro will leave next year what has been his profession for three decades, as he shares in the video: “Next year 2023 is a special year for me, I celebrate 30 years of Alternative and it will be my last season as an active bullfighter”.


Díaz has reassured his followers by assuring with a smile that he is not sad, but happy, and acknowledges that in the balance of his life: “There are many more positive things. I think it is closing a cycle, closing a stage, closing something in my life that has made me very happy, that has given me everything,” he says.

The man from Córdoba recalls the surgery he underwent on both hips in his message: “In 2018 I had a very strong operation. I thought I was never going to fight again”, and shows how “all my illusion was to say goodbye to bullfighting in front of the bull. Because the bull, as you know, has given me everything”.


the husband of Virginia Troconis He has also talked about everything that his profession has brought him: “A quality of life, it has given me an illusion, and it has made me the person I am today,” he explains.

To close the monologue announcement, Manuel vehemently affirms how he feels: “I am super happy, super excited. I think it will be a spectacular year in which I will be able to give my bullfighting to all those people who have followed me, and step on those arenas landmarks that have gotten me to where I am now”.

The recorded message ends like the text that accompanies it, with sincere thanks that he extends to all the people who have supported him in his career: “With much gratitude to my people, my family, the bullfighting family, colleagues, ranchers , businessmen, proxies and silver bullfighters, who have always been by my side. Let’s go for 30 years”.


His daughter, Alba Diazhas been the first to express support for her father’s decision through messages with a heartfelt and tender “I love you dad”, followed by another affectionate message from the wife of the right-hander, Virginia, who says “We’ll be there always by your side”.
