Manolo Márquez will be in charge of directing Hyderabad in a new edition of the Indian Super League. The Barcelona native, without a team since he left the Thai Ratchaburi bench in January 2019 because “they wanted to make the lineups for me”, returns to Asia to replace Albert Roca, who left his position as manager of the Indian team after receiving the call from Ronald Koeman to join, as a physical trainer, his coaching staff in the first team of FC Barcelona.
“We think Marquez is a perfect choice,” said Varun Tripuraneni, co-owner of Hyderabad. The Barcelona player, who maintains a close relationship with his predecessor, Albert Roca, said he was facing a “great challenge”. “The club wants to continue with the same philosophy with which I have worked for many years, so our objectives are common. Now we only have to work to transmit these ideologies to the players,” added the Spaniard, who will continue to count on Xavier Gurri as assistant.
It will be the third adventure abroad for Manolo Márquez, who before directing the aforementioned Ratchaburi already lived a brief stage in charge of NK Istra in Croatia. His arrival on the bench at Hyderabad maintains the trend for Indian teams to sign coaches with Barça DNA. Carles Cuadrat (Bengaluru), Antonio López Habas (ATK Mohun Bagan), Kibu Vicuña (Kerala Blasters), Juan Ferrando (FC Goa) and Gerard Nus (NorthEast United) are the rest of the Spanish technicians to confirm you for the seventh edition of the championship.
