‘Manita’ from Sweden to Italy to advance to the round of 16 and key victory for France against Brazil

Jamaica narrowly defeats Panama and takes advantage of the Brazilian puncture

MADRID, 29 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Swedish soccer team beat Italy 5-0 this Saturday, thus ensuring their ticket to the round of 16, on the tenth day of the Women’s World Cup that takes place in Australia and New Zealand, while France achieved a key victory against Brazil (2-1), which Jamaica then took advantage of by beating Panama by the minimum.

At the Wellington Regional Stadium, a brace from Amanda Ilestedt led the Swedish team to victory to lead Group G. Of course, it took the Scandinavians to open the ‘can’; They did it in the 39th minute, with a header from the aforementioned Ilestedt from a corner kick taken by Jonna Andersson. And just before the break, a goal from Fridolina Rolfö came from another corner and also made it 3-0.

That target was the work of Stina Blackstenius, pushing the ball after a play by Johanna Kaneryd on the right. With almost everything settled for Sweden, Italy barely managed to pull itself together, conceding two more goals in the second half; The inspired Ilestedt scored first and, already in injury time, the ‘little hand’ Rebecka Blomqvist closed.

Then it was the turn of France and Brazil on the pitch of the Brisbane Stadium, opening matchday 2 of Group F. Eugenie Le Sommer put the French ahead after fifteen minutes, with a tight header that followed an assist from Kadidiatou Diani , also made upside down.

Debinha equalized at 58′, controlling a loose ball inside the area and executing a low shot with his right foot. French captain Wendie Renard, headed in from a corner kick, scored the final 2-1 on 83′. Thanks to this result, France reached the group lead with four points; Brazil, on the other hand, stayed with three points.

They were closely watching this match at the Rectangular Stadium in Perth, where a lone goal by Allyson Swaby in the 56th minute sealed Jamaica’s victory against Panama. This helped the Jamaicans to add four points and, at the same time, to leave the Panamanians (zero points) with no options to continue in the tournament.
