Manchester United fans pay tribute to Bobby Charlton at Old Trafford

MANCHESTER (UNITED KINGDOM), Oct. 22 (dpa/EP) –

Manchester United fans have flocked to Old Trafford to pay tribute to Red Devils legend Sir Bobby Charlton, who died on Saturday at the age of 86.

A book of condolence was opened in the International Suite on Sunday and fans laid flowers and scarves and left messages for one of the most famous players in the club’s history.

“Thank you Sir Bobby, a hero to the world football family,” indicated one of the messages. “History, dignity and integrity is what you gave to our great club. Our promise is to make sure it remains,” says another from the group of ‘The 1958’ fans.

Charlton was a key member of the England team that won the 1966 World Cup, and also enjoyed great success at club level with United, who became the first English club to win the European Cup in 1968.

His former teammate Denis Law, with whom he formed, also along with George Best, the legendary ‘United Trinity’, was “sad” about the death of his friend. What can I say. Sir Bobby was an incredible player and a gentleman. “Manchester United was everything to him,” he said.
